Domestic/Family/Community Violence, Homelessness and Warlga Ngurra
Warlga Ngurra is a Specialist Homelessness Service (SHS). SHS is a NSW government program that responds to people who are homeless or at risk of being homeless. SHS in NSW went through an extensive reform program between 2012 and 2014, with the ambition to focus on prevention & early intervention to those at risk. Homelessness is often created through domestic, family & community violence.
Warlga Ngurra aims to enable vulnerable people to engage fully in the social and economic life in Newcastle and the Hunter Valley. People who are facing homelessness or even at imminent risk of being homeless for any reason are a priority to Warlga Ngurra.
Warlga Ngurra identifies the needs and supports vulnerable people to either remain safely in their existing homes or assist to secure stable housing for themselves & their families. Those who are in crisis are provided with safe and secure accommodation & supported to access stable housing. Once people have established their housing requirements, they are supported by caseworkers to assist with breaking the cycle
